Life is not easy throughout the year in Niti Mana valleys of Himalayas at India –Tibet border. However, the community is always active in different activities be it religious, cultural or sports. During summer, when the snow melts down and the life is easy to live in the valleys, cricket tournament is organized at Buraas (near Malari Village). Around 10 villages participate in the tournament at the last cricket ground of India.
To promote community culture and tradition, cricket tournament is being organized in the lower Himalaya from 2014 onward at Gopeshwar (Chamoli). The cricket tournament is organized by a community association at Gopeshwar (Chamoli) and all executive members are from Rongpa community.
The glimpse of the community is seen during inauguration ceremony with all cultural dresses and traditional music. The tournament is also seen as unity of the community and their hospitality.
The tournament is organized during winter season at Police Ground, Gopeshwar. Prize money for the winner team is as high as Rs. 1 Lakh. Many teams participate in the tournament. It is now being projected as state level tournament as teams from other districts are coming here to participate every year.
3rd season of the tournament is organized from 1 January to 15 January 2016. The chief guest of the inaugural ceremony is District Magistrate and for closing ceremony MLA of the area is invited for prize distribution.
